LEGO block distributions

Recently, after purchasing a couple of 'purple buckets' of basic LEGO building blocks, I took the time to count the distribution of pieces before throwing them in with my myriad other bricks. The label on the outside of the bucket stated that there were 400 bricks inside... would that be true? would each bucket contain exactly 400 bricks? and would each contain the same number of each type of brick (color and size)?

Forty-five minutes and two empty purple buckets later I had my answers:

LEGO set #2494 ('Purple Bucket')
  1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4 1x6 1x8 2x2 2x3 2x4 2x6 Color Total
white 20 20 8 14 8 2 10 4 8 1 95
blue 20 20 8 14 8 2 10 4 8 1 95
red 17 16 6 12 6 4 8 4 7 1 81
yellow 17 16 6 12 6 4 8 4 7 1 81
black 12 10 4 8 2 2 4 2 4 0 48
Size Total 86 82 32 60 30 14 40 18 34 4 400 TOTAL

As you can see, yes, there were, in fact, exactly 400 bricks in each bucket... and each bucket contained exactly the same number of each piece. Whew -- I can sleep at night. Some interesting notes:

And now for 'the big blue tub'...
