Miniature Pentomino Set

Get a puzzle with twenty different colors of LEGO pieces for $25

Expanding on my love of puzzles, and specifically Pentominoes, I am pleased to announce that I am selling miniature sets of the puzzle constructed out of 100% LEGO pieces. The set has been designed so that it can be affordable for most people while also exploring a multitude of LEGO colors.

Right now I am offering three types of the set: one with a hinged lid, and two without:

17 Color Pentomino Set Without Lid

The set consists of the twelve Pentomino shapes plus a tray which will hold the pieces in a 6x10 rectangle. The tray is adorned with smooth tiles to allow the pieces to be placed and removed easily. Each of the puzzle pieces is constructed from small plates (mainly 1x1, 1x2, and 1x3 plates).

The complete set (tray and pieces) use 17 different LEGO colors (1 color for each of the twelve pieces plus 5 separate colors for the tray). The set pictures at right uses the following colors: Tan, Dark Red, Brown, Red, Medium Blue, White, Yellow, Gray, Dark Gray, Blue, Sand Green, Green, Black, Teal, Sand Blue, Yellow Orange, and Bright Green. Note: while I cannot guarantee exactly what colors will be used in each set sold (nor can I take requests to use specific colors), I do guarantee that the set will use 17 different colors.

The price for this set is $20 (twenty dollars) plus shipping (see below). United States only: no international orders, please.

20 Color Pentomino Set With Lid

This set is very similar to the set above except that a hinged lid is built onto the tray so that the pieces are securely held within when closed. The lid adds an additional 3 colors to the set, bringing the total number of different colors used in the set to twenty!

The price for this set is $25 (twenty-five dollars) plus shipping (see below). United States only: no international orders, please.

6 Color Pentomino Set Without Lid

For those who are not quite as concerned with getting a bunch of different colors, I also offer a simple set in a tray (no lid) using the 6 'classic' LEGO colors: Red, White, Black, Blue, Yellow, and Green.

The price for this set is $15 (fifteen dollars) plus shipping (see below). United States only: no international orders, please.

How To Order

If you are interested in one or more of the sets above, send me an email (be sure to clearly state how many of each type of set you want -- refer to them as 6, 17, or 20 color sets, please). I will let you know if I have enough in stock to immediately ship, or, if not, how long I expect it will take to build a new set (and obtain any needed pieces). Payment will be due when your set is ready to ship. I will accept payment via Paypal (non-Credit Card source), or by check or money order to be mailed to me (I will provide my address as needed). The set will be shipped when payment is received.

Sets will be mailed in a padded envelope via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. Shipping charges will be $5 dollars for the first set, and $1 for each additional set.

More information about LEGO Pentominoes may be found at another one of my pages.

All sets are unglued, and as with all things with small parts, these should not be given to young children who might choke on the tiny pieces.

This set is not an official product of the LEGO company; it is designed, built, and sold by Eric Harshbarger.

More Information

With the way the LEGO Pentomino Sets on this page are constructed the asymmetric pieces cannot be reflected without the studs of the plates pointing downward. This actually limits the number of possible solutions one can obtain with the pieces as I have built them.

In Pentomino Sets that have no such restrictions I believe there are 2339 solutions (distinct solutions not including rotations or reflections of the complete rectangle). The sets on this page, with their restricted pieces, allow only 80 distinct solutions; or at least this is what one Tom Saxton of Idle Loop software asserts as he has provided me a list of such solutions.

For additional fun you are encouraged to disassemble some of the LEGO Pentomino pieces you have purchased and build the 'reflection' versions of the pieces. Then try to get some more solutions.
